Frequently Asked Questions

  • Sober living houses, also called sober homes and sober living environments, are facilities that provide safe housing and supportive, structured living conditions for people exiting drug rehabilitation programs. These homes serve as a transitional environment between such programs and mainstream society, helping individuals prepare for the challenges of daily living.

  • To live in our sober living homes, you must abide by the house rules. The rules are intended to keep you safe, reinforce your recovery, and minimize conflicts between program participants. Besides prohibiting the use of drugs or alcohol, these rules include mandatory attendance to a 12-step program or similar, curfews and daily chores. For a more comprehensive look, visit the House Rules page or contact us.

  • Residency at a sober living home can range from several months to a year or longer, depending on the specific needs of the individual. Sober living is meant to help the individual develop the habits, social support structure and tools needed to transition to independent life post-treatment. The process largely depends on the behavior, attitude, length of sobriety, and other characteristics of the individual. At Haven Homes, we ask that individuals commit to a minimum of 90 days.

Having a roommate also encourages people to take responsibility for their own actions and behaviors. This includes keeping rooms tidy, making beds and being conscious of those around us.

  • While Haven Homes Foundation does not mandate a specific 12-step program, you will be required to attend a support group at least three times per week. This may include Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA). These programs are critical to maintaining your sobriety. You will learn from the experience of others how to cope with life challenges and build the social support structure needed for long-term recovery. While we do not hold 12-step programs within the homes, our home locations offer easy access to groups in the local community.

  • Sober living homes are designed to be safe and trigger-free spaces for participants.
